'Vitelloni' staat voor jongeren met grote dromen maar zonder moed. Ze feesten en grappen, maar stellen slechts hun volwassenheid uit. Het verhaal handelt over vijf van dit soort jongens die opgroeien in een Italiaans kustplaatsje.
