Na een paar maanden te hebben doorgebracht in een lab in de ruimte, bereiden drie astronauten zich voor op hun reis terug naar aarde, maar dat blijkt onmogelijk te zijn. NASA zet een reddingsactie in werking om ze alsnog terug naar aarde te brengen.
