Zijn opmerkelijke films zijn onder meer Animal House, Diner, Footloose, Flatliners, A Few Good Men, Apollo 13, Mystic River, The Woodsman, Friday the 13th, Hollow Man, Tremors en Frost/Nixon. Bacon heeft Golden Globe- en Screen Actors Guild Awards gewonnen, is genomineerd geweest voor een Emmy Award en werd door The Guardian uitgeroepen tot een van de beste acteurs die nooit een Oscarnominatie heeft ontvangen.
