Michael Bryan French werd geboren op 13 juli 1952 in Lackawanna, NY en groeide op in Elmira, NY. Hij begon zijn carrière als lid van The Wooster Group en speelde vervolgens op Broadway in Neil Simons 'Biloxi Blues' en Off-Broadway bij The New York Shakespeare Festival, Playwrights Horizons, The Vineyard Theater en Soho Rep. Ook trad hij op in vele regionale theaters in de VS. Na zijn verhuizing naar Los Angeles in 1990 legde hij zich meer toe op tv en film, voordat hij in 2010 terugkeerde naar New York.
