Mikel Murfi

Mikel Murfi komt uit Sligo en volgde zijn opleiding aan de École Jacques Lecoq in Parijs. Als acteur speelde hij onder meer in 'The Playboy of the Western World', 'The Morning After Optimism', 'The Tempest' en 'The Comedy of Errors' in het Abbey Theatre in Dublin. Andere rollen speelde hij in producties zoals 'The New Electric Ballroom', 'Lyndie’s Got a Gun', 'The Increased Difficulty of Concentration' (Druid, Galway), 'The Chairs' (Blue Raincoat, Sligo), 'The Cure' (Half Moon Theatre, Cork), 'Stokehauling', 'Half Eight Mass of a Tuesday', 'Macbeth', 'God’s Gift', 'The White Headed Boy' (Barabbas), 'Studs', 'Melting Penguins' (Passion Machine), 'Lady Windermere’s Fan' (Rough Magic) en 'The Tender Trap' (Pigsback). In Londen trad hij op in 'Desire Under The Elms' in The Lyric Hammersmith, waar hij ook bewegingsregisseur was. Als regisseur werkte hij recentelijk aan 'The Second Coming' (een luchtacrobatische dansvoorstelling gebaseerd op Yeats) met Fidget Feet voor The Hawk’s Well Theatre in Sligo. Hij werkte met Fishamble/Galway Arts Festival aan 'The Great Goat Bubble' en co-regisseerde 'Ruth 66' voor Fourth Leaf Theatre. Hij bedacht en regisseerde 'The Poor Little Boy With No Arms' aan The Lir Academy met de cast. Voor Red Kettle regisseerde hij 'The Country Girls' van Edna O'Brien. Hij bedacht en regisseerde 'It Only Ever Happens in the Movies' met John Taite en de cast van het National Youth Theatre. Hij regisseerde Manchan Magan’s 'Focal Point' voor TEAM. Voor het Abbey Theatre regisseerde hij 'Arrah Na Pogue' en 'B for Baby'. Voor Druid regisseerde hij 'Penelope' en 'The Walworth Farce'. Andere regiewerk omvat 'Diamonds in the Soil', 'The Lost Days of Ollie Deasy' voor Macnas, 'Falling out of Love' voor Yew Tree Productions, 'Trad' voor Galway Arts Festival en 'The Lonesome West' in het Lyric Theatre in Belfast. Hij was bewegingsregisseur voor de Landmark Productions/Galway Arts Festival-productie van 'Misterman'. Tegenwoordig toert hij ook met zijn solovoorstelling 'The Man In The Woman’s Shoes'.
