Sofía Carrillo is een Mexicaanse regisseur die gespecialiseerd is in stop-motion. Haar korte film "Cerulia" won de Ariel voor Beste Animatiefilm. Ze werkte ook mee aan "Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio". "Insectarium" wordt haar eerste speelfilm.
